Showit vs. WordPress

There are so many platforms out there for building a website, and finding the right one can be a difficult task! The most commonly asked question we get about platforms is whether someone should go with Showit vs. WordPress. Keep reading below to find out the difference between each and which one we would recommend most to our customers.

My Previous Experience with Showit and WordPress

I used to be a WordPress enthusiast before Showit came around. I would design all of my client’s sites on there using the Elementor plugin (it made things easier to edit on their end!) and would hands down recommend it to anyone asking. The minute I found out about Showit, though, was the minute I immediately changed my mind. It took a little time to get used to the different layout, but when I realized that no coding was needed to make the same exact website, if not better, I knew I needed to switch over.

The Benefits of WordPress

WordPress is (in my opinion) one of the most powerful platforms. It has plugin options for just about anything you can imagine and is a great option for bloggers who post hundreds of blog posts per year. It typically isn’t expensive as you just need to pay for your domain name and hosting. While WordPress is one of the most powerful platforms, its power comes at a major cost – time, experience, maintenance, and learning cost.

The Downfalls of WordPress

As mentioned above, WordPress is incredibly powerful but it does come at a cost. As a small business owner, or really any business owner who isn’t in the market to hire a web developer on their team, WordPress is incredibly complicated. Learning HTML and CSS is time consuming and not an option for many business owners. Even if you do decide to go for the drag and drop plugin Elementor, the plugin itself doesn’t look great on all browsers and screen sizes. Showit, however, is a completely different ballgame.

The Differences Between Showit vs. WordPress

1. Showit is easier to use than WordPress

“Showit is a drag-and-drop website platform that provides total creative freedom over the layout and design of your website, all without a single line of code (Showit)”. This statement comes straight from the Showit website itself – that right there is what drew me in! It’s easy for anyone to drag and drop photos and text on a page. The best part is, you can have your website look any way you want without hours of custom coding. Arched images, abstract layouts, you name it… you can do it. With WordPress it would take months of coding to get the same look.

2. Showit templates are easier to edit

With a Showit Template, all you have to do is swap out your images, copy, and colors and you’re good to go. It’s that easy! No custom coding, easy to use formats, and easy switches if needed. Want your image more to the left? Drag it there. Want to add a cool illustration or video to part of your page? Drag it there! It really is that easy. One of my favorite parts is that you can preview the site (both mobile and desktop) before you click publish. No staging sites needed. 3. Showit mobile is easy to set up

With Showit, you have two options to edit your site. The mobile version and the desktop version. My favorite thing about the mobile setup is that you can swap text and images around to be in a different spot than the desktop version! You can even change the colors and fonts so that it better fits a smaller screen than what you’ve used for the desktop version. With WordPress, coding a mobile site is much more difficult, and changing fonts and colors isn’t as easy as a click of a button.

4. Showit hosting is simple

Hosting with Showit is incredibly easy. So long as you have a domain name, you can sign up for one of their packages and you’re good to go! They will set everything up for you, if you ask, and it will be finished within 48 business hours. This brings me straight into their customer service which is absolutely unbeatable. WordPress on the other hand is free with the hosting provider you choose, but hosting provider’s prices vary and some are completely unreliable (ahem… GoDaddy). Although hosting isn’t directly related to WordPress (as in, they’re two different things), it does make having a WordPress site a little more difficult.

4. Showit customer service is stellar

With Showit, you’re speaking to the same handful of people who work in their help/tech department. They are all kind, quick to respond, and always have you in their best interest! With WordPress, you typically have to go through their call center and it takes much longer than anyone has the patience for. Depending on your host with WordPress, you may also have to pay for this help, which is a huge turn away for me and my clients.

5. Showit uses WordPress for blogging

The coolest part about Showit is that they use WordPress for blogging. The WordPress blogging platform as mentioned earlier is incredibly robust and just downright amazing. You really get the best of both worlds when signing up for Showit because you have access to the best blogging platform out there for FREE! WordPress has the best SEO capabilities out of any platform, so being able to use it along with Showit’s drag and drop designer platform makes it a no brainer.

So… have I convinced you that Showit is a much better option than WordPress? I sure hope so. In the end, I want you to be able to have your dream site with the best SEO capabilities and Showit gives you both!

How do you switch from WordPress to Showit?

If you’ve been convinced to switch over like I have, here are steps in order to move your site from WordPress to Showit.

  1. Keep your current website up and running. You don’t need to take your website down or put up a “coming soon” page unless you’d like to!
  2. Signup for Showit. You can sign up for a free 14-day trial here, so you’re able to make sure your website is good to go before paying and committing.
  3. Purchase a Showit website template from my Template Shop! Starting with a template is great because it’s easy to make it look completely custom and fit perfectly with your brand.
  4. Keep the same page names as your older ones so that none of them show up as a 404 error when migrating your site.
  5. Now it’s time to customize! You can use the fonts and colors we have provided in the templates, or switch them out for ones that match your current branding. You can also easily upload custom fonts to use if needed.
  6. Ready to launch? Let the Showit team know in their help center and they’ll get everything set up for you. Yes, it’s that easy!
  7. Pop that champagne! Your new website is ready to go. Pay attention to your website analytics to see how many more people are coming to your page because of that new design 😉 It may surprise you how many new leads you’ll get with a beautifully designed site that converts.
